Future Architects: Parametricism VS Humanitarian

This coursework is about the evolution of architectural practice, and how it is transformed together with architectural style and technology. One architectural practice is of course, different from one to another architectural firm. Some of them, are developed towards regional sustainability approach, some of them are towards parametric design approach. As we know that the latest recipient of Pritzker Prize is Shigeru Ban. His works are mostly dealing with humanitarian aid such as disaster-relief shelters for the victims.

Contrary to the other Pritzker Prize winner, Zaha Hadid. Her works are mostly based on parametric design and expensive materials which are more towards the spatial experience and form manipulations. The argument is about the social responsibility of architect towards human’s needs whether the scale of fees and duty is really appropriate with the level of works and contributions. Why are the parametric-designed projects need to be higher scale of fee than community-funded projects? Between commercial-oriented projects and social-based project, which one is important in term of responsibility and the scale of fees?
